In one line

pindrop24 shows what is open right now in 38 cities across 20 countries in Asia, Europe and Oceania, in seven languages. It is paid for by advertising fees from the venues. There are no star ratings and no reviews.

What this site is for

The first problem a traveller hits on arrival is simple: what is actually open at this hour? Search results give opening hours that are out of date, or written only in the local language. pindrop24 leaves only the places that are genuinely open at that moment, and adds how long it takes from where you are staying and roughly what it costs.

How we make money

Advertising fees paid by venues are our only income. Travellers pay nothing. Venues that advertise carry an “ad” label on screen. Opening hours, prices and locations are checked to the same standard whether a venue advertises or not, and we write down the date we checked.

Why there are no ratings or reviews

Ratings and reviews can be bought, and in practice they are. Putting something we cannot verify on the screen makes the whole screen less believable. So we publish only what we can check ourselves — opening hours, price range, location, payment methods, languages spoken — and we say what we checked and when.

Why we do not publish venue contact details

Publishing them would mean asking travellers to enquire in the local language, and would hand their contact details to the venue. Instead we ask on your behalf and pass the answer back as given. We pass the venue only what a booking needs, never your contact details.

Where the price figures come from

For each city we track six things: bottled water, taxi flag-down fare, a meal at an inexpensive restaurant, one local transport ride, beer and coffee. Every figure carries its source and the date it was checked on screen, and the “sources item by item” page links to the original source. Figures set by governments and transport authorities are graded separately from aggregated data.

Every venue on screen is a sample built to show how a listing will look; none of them is a real business. Once real advertising venues are listed, the items we checked and the date we checked them appear in that place. Until then the site is blocked from search engines.

Who runs it

A sole proprietor registered in Georgia (Tbilisi). The business registration number and address will be published on this page and in the footer as soon as registration is complete.

Enquiries go through the help centre. If anything on the site is wrong, tell us through “report a correction” — we check it, fix it, and record the date.
