Sit down in a shop and çay tends to arrive. It is usually a gesture, and does not oblige you to buy.
Mosques need covered shoulders and knees
Women cover their hair; the large mosques lend scarves. Visitors wait outside briefly at prayer times.
Some prices are negotiable and some are not
Haggle in markets and for souvenirs; restaurants and supermarkets are fixed.
Be careful of the friendly stranger who leads you somewhere
The shoe-brush trick and the inflated bar bill are the two most reported. Do not enter a place chosen by someone you just met.

Domestic flights are cheap and frequent
Istanbul to Antalya or Cappadocia is just over an hour, and far quicker than the bus.
The intercity buses are good
Wide seats and refreshments served. It is still twelve hours in a chair.
Istanbul has two airports
Istanbul (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) sit on opposite sides of the strait. A connection can mean crossing more than 40km, so check the code when booking.
